Wow, congrats to Kate Lanphear as she is poached from T Magazine at The New York Times to become the Editor-In-Chief of Maxim Magazine, which was recently purchased by by billionaire Sardar Biglari. Lanphear has been bouncing up the ranks of the top glossy mags the past few years, from Elle Magazine to T and now to Maxim. Might seem to be an odd choice considering the decidedly unfashionable Maxim’s appeal to the everyday guy, rough around the edges and a little vulgar. On the other hand, maybe Kate is just what the magazine needs rise back up to profitability and fame. March 2015 is rumored to be her first editorial edition, so we will all wait and see what’s to come.
While she won’t give too many details, the editor told the paper of her new role, “I hope to cultivate and broaden Maxim’s coverage of style and culture. It’s an exciting time for this boldly confident, unapologetic brand.”
