Came across this excellent diatribe on the lack of civility in our culture these days. Something that we probably all feel is happening, even if we don’t want to talk about it. Perfect example comes from this latest piece in Town And Country Magazine by Daniel Mendelsohn that opens up with the all too familiar interaction where one individual in your party of two is constantly glancing at their cell phone under the table and you kind of just want to smack them. We can’t cut and paste the whole article, but its a good well thought out read, and if its a topic you are all too familiar with, then maybe you’ll get a chuckle out of commiserating. The article of course goes through some bit of a history on manners and citizenship, to nicely beg the question and turn the discussion to include the one thing we’re all really concerned about, politics and the orange monster who seems to be dominating the news.
Yes, if the simple cell phone is just the start of it, Trump is that ultimate manifestation of the end of civility. Ugh.
