Having to write a headline such as the above, Trump pulls the US out of the Paris Climate Agreement and trying to come up with some commentary that would be worthwhile is proving impossibly difficult. Thoughts, we’re trying to come up with something that we can say that might make a difference, but know its basically pointless. We let out a big sigh and can only express our profound disappointment with the decision. Yes, on the one hand we are part and parcel of the vast majority of reasonably well informed individuals who believe that climate change is a concern, human cause climate changed is real and it is a real problem. But put all of that aside for a second. What about having clean air to breath, clean water to drink, nature to enjoy? What about the United States being a leader and a roll model for the rest of the world?
Hopefully we all want a healthy, clean, livable world. Is that too much to ask? Yeah, we get it, America first and all that, but without a healthy environment, what kind of America is it? What kind of world is it? Whatever happened to that old, Purple mountains majesty above the fruited plains…?
These are perhaps the thoughts that cause us the most consternation and will be keeping us up at night. Did we just hand over leadership of the planet to whoever can and is wiling to fill the void?
