We’ve been on a rampage for the past year or so looking for the perfect blue suit, oddly enough it’s harder than you might think to find. Pretty much every good mens clothing brand is going to carry a navy suit, but this is very very different from the blue suit. A Navy suit is still conservative enough, it’s a shade off from charcoal or black, but is still and is a must in the traditional mens wardrobe. However, living in the modern era and appealing to the modern sensibility we want something with just slightly a little more flare, that can easily be worn during work hours and then after hours. The obviously the appropriate shade of blue is very important, you don’t want navy, that’s too conservative and it can’t be too close to the standard blue jeans color, otherwise you run the risk of looking like Papa Smurf when you go casual. The choices it seems have been either go much lighter with some sort of a pattern, or try and find the lightest navy around.
Our quest for the particular suit in question goes back quite a few years to the movie A Good Year, with Russel Crowe, where his uncle played by Albert Finney is dispensing his particular take on living life well and issues the statement, “Never underestimate the importance of a good blue suit”. It has been since then that we have been on this quest, just about for a decade now. While most mens closets have their fill of grey, or charcoal, navy and of course at least 30 black suits, the true blue suit still remains elusive. Perhaps the difficulty in finding it is what makes it so desirable. Rest assured, while we have tried, and posted and will continue to do so, we will not rest until we find it.
